Before entering the temple, the first thing that appeared in front of us was a tall wooden bell tower with Shifu Cave on the lower floor and Shifu Cave on the upper floor. The bell tower has two floors and three eaves, bearing the cross top. The four ends of the Cross Ridge have four faucets, which are opposite to each other. Looking at the whole, the corridors are arranged in rows, with the Great White Tower behind them, which is really elegant. Inscribed on the lintel of the stone cave are four powerful characters, "Earthquake and Enlightenment of a Thousand Thousands", which means the sound of the bell, which has a long history, can awaken all living beings in the world.
The large copper bell hanging from the bell tower is called "the Bell of the Underworld", also known as "the Long Ring Bell". It was cast during the reign of Tianqi in the Ming Dynasty (1621-1627). The bell was eight feet tall, with a maximum outer diameter of five feet and a thickness of three inches. The edge of the bell was shaped as a lotus petal. There was a Buddhist Sutra in regular scriptures on the outer wall with a total of more than 10,000 words. This copper bell is the largest one in Wutaishan Temple. It is said to weigh 9,999.5 jin.
